Scraper Bike Way - From International Blvd to MacArthur Blvd

This limited edition Scraper Bike Team x Oaklandish tee design was inspired by the remarkable story behind the inception of Scraper Bike Way. In June 2020, 90th Ave was transformed into the incredible Scraper Bike Way, through an initiative led by the Original Scraper Bike Team in collaboration with the City of Oakland Department of Transportation. From International Blvd to MacArthur Blvd, the street was paved and re-striped from four lanes to two lanes, with a center-running bike lane and upgraded crosswalks to make it safer to walk and bike.

The Scraper Bike Team is a nonprofit organization that empowers urban youth living in underserved communities through self-expression, creativity, and confidence. "We encourage youth entrepreneurship and promote healthy, sustainable living for all. The Scraper Bike Team will use each work of bicycle art to impact social justice and global change," said founder and Chief Visionary Officer, Tyrone "Champ" Stevenson.

The Scraper Bike Team is currently expanding its after-school enrichment programs into neighboring Deep East Oakland parks and libraries, starting with Arroyo Park and Martin Luther King Jr. Branch Library. The Scraper Bike Team is made up of community youth, ages 10-25 years old, and offers its members mentorship and access to free bikes and bike parts. They teach their members bicycle mechanics, bike safety and how to make a Scraper Bike.
