A Century of Caring. An Oakland Story.

Oaklandish is honored to partner with UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland in a meaningful collaboration celebrating 100 years of training pediatricians whose impact has reached far beyond the hospital's walls.

Since 1926, generations of residents and fellows have learned not only how to care for children, but also how to advocate for families, build community, and practice medicine with compassion. Those physicians (affectionately known as CHOmies) now serve children throughout the Bay Area, across the United States, and around the world.

But every CHOmie shares something in common—they trained in Oakland.

For many alumni, Oakland became home during some of the most formative years of their lives. They celebrated milestones at neighborhood restaurants, grabbed coffee before morning rounds, found comfort after difficult overnight shifts, and built lifelong friendships while exploring the city together. The businesses, neighborhoods, parks, and people of Oakland became part of the CHO experience.

Both UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland and Oaklandish believe that community matters. One has spent a century training physicians dedicated to caring for children and families. The other has spent years celebrating the creativity, culture, and resilience that make Oakland unique.
