AC Transit: Moving the East Bay for 65 Years

Oaklandish is proud to partner with AC Transit to celebrate 65 years of bus service in the East Bay. Since 1960, AC Transit has provided billions of rides, led the way in zero emission transit innovation, and has become an essential part of East Bay life.

Headquartered in Oakland, AC Transit is the largest bus-only public transit agency in California, still operating bus lines first launched during the Key System, AC Transit’s predecessor, which over the previous 100 years carried passengers via horse-drawn streetcars, electric streetcars, ferries, and buses.

In more than 65 years of operation, AC Transit has established a commitment to providing safe and reliable transit service to more than 1.5 million East Bay residents that populate its 364-square-mile service area, including 13 cities and adjacent unincorporated areas of Alameda and Contra Costa counties.

Whether opening the doors to thousands of middle and high schoolers over the years, carrying workers over the Bay Bridge, or providing stable Union jobs to countless families, AC Transit keeps the East Bay moving.

This limited-edition collaboration brings AC Transit’s iconic history to life. Inspired by the 1960s classic “fishbowl” bus design and a spirit that makes our community thrive, each shirt is a wearable piece of East Bay history honoring the legacy, design, and spirit that keeps The Town and East Bay rolling.

A portion of sales help support Transform, a nonprofit operating in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties committed to equity in transit funding and access for low-income and transit-dependent riders.
