La Curandera Hoodie

The Town has many spirited neighborhoods, but the Fruitvale is quintessentially Oakland. Like

The Town itself, Fruitvale is defined by its cultural vibrancy, imaginative problem solving, and the economic resilience created by hundreds of independent small businesses.

The Fruitvale is also home to one of our most cherished annual events. Oakland's Día de los Muertos Festival is a free, family-friendly street party celebrating the Day of the Dead, produced by The Unity Council.

In honor of the Festival’s 26th Anniversary, and to mark the tumult caused by the pandemic, this year’s theme is Curando Corazones (Healing Hearts). The festival is a celebration of ancestral traditions, Latinx art, culture, and the community during Día de los Muertos.

The Oakland Día de los Muertos Festival is produced by The Unity Council. The Unity Council is 100% non-profit and community-driven, and every dollar raised goes towards achieving their mission: to promote social equity and improve quality of life by building vibrant communities where everyone can work, learn, and thrive.
