The Christmas Ride on Picardy Drive

On a quiet street between Seminary Ave. and 55th Ave. in East Oakland, a holiday tradition has come yet again to Picardy Drive. Beginning the day after Thanksgiving and lasting until the beginning of January, residents of Picardy break out boxes, climb up on ladders, and link their Storybook houses together via strands of Christmas lights. Now well over 80 years old, the neighborhood tradition is not only a bonding experience for the neighborhood, but is an annual event that warm Oaklanders’ hearts year after year.
