Superbowl week has come and gone. There were events all over the Bay Area commemorating the big game, but for the Oaklandish and Never Elsewhere crew the in-store meet and greet with Ricky Watters was the only event we had our minds on. With the unveiling of a collaborative tee shirt there was plenty to be excited about. On top of everything else, we had a wonderful showing from the folks from First Place for Youth, the event’s beneficiary, making it a truly special evening.
Ricky and his wife Cat chose First Place for Youth as the event beneficiary out of appreciation for their efforts with Bay Area foster youth. Ricky’s dedication to the youth is apparent to anyone who seen or heard him speak on the subject. Having been adopted himself, Ricky was directly connected to both the people dedicating their time to First Place for Youth’s efforts and the foster youth who were able to make it to the event. Foster youth often have to deal with issues that few are prepared for, and Ricky was clear in his support, voicing that these individuals are equipped – and able – to deal with anything life throws their way.
The energy around the event, and specifically that of Ricky and his family, was simply moving and a pleasure to be a part of. The two hours we spent with Ricky, his wife Cat, and their two boys Ricky Jr. and Shane simply flew by. Between the good exposure for a greatnonprofit, having kids running around the store and plenty of fans taking their pictures with Ricky, it was great to help make the event possible. We would like to send a big thank you to the Watters family and to all the exceptional folks at First Place for Youth for their contributions.
