Oaklandish is proud to announce Hack the Hood as our April Nonprofit of the Month!
Winner of a 2017 Oaklandish Innovator Award, Hack the Hood introduces low-income youth of color to careers in tech by hiring and training them to build websites for small businesses in their own communities.
During six-week “bootcamps,” young people gain valuable hands-on experience, build a portfolio, and learn about opportunities in the tech industry, as well as build critical technical, leadership, entrepreneurship, and life skills with mentorship from staff and tech professionals working in the field. Their approach involves 21st century technical & professional skills training, real world hands-on learning, culturally relevant instruction, and a peer community.
Come visit our Dimond retail store, located at 3419 Fruitvale Ave, on Saturday, April 15th from 12pm – 4pm to learn more about this great local organization. 10% of the day’s proceeds will be donated directly to Hack the Hood to support their continued work with Oakland youth!
