April First Friday Recap

Last Friday we had another packed house for our monthly First Friday event. Dion Decibels & Oaklandish brought in DNas from Streets is Talking Radio to curate and host the night. While the overall foot traffic from Art Murmur was lacking, performers brought their own respective crowds, keeping the room lively and full the entire night.

Simmi started things off with her powerful voice, backed by dark and sometimes even ambient beats. Her lyrics about aspects of Town living created an intense interplay of music and vocals,

Legendvry’s aggressive delivery and classic-style beats couldn’t come from anywhere but Oakland. Painting the picture of life on North Oakland’s streets, Legendvry’s performance was raw and as quick as it started, he blasted through six songs and was out.

Finally, DNas brought Them Hellas to the stage. The hip-hop collective, featuring Queens D. Light, Duckwrth, Anthony Dragons, the Capri Sun Papi, JMouse, Auk5, Fox Bilif and Brandon immediately whirled the crowd into a bobbing frenzy, with each emcee interjecting lyrics into each others’ verses. Toward the end of the set, Duckwrth’s track “Hoverboard” got the crowd going into full mosh pit status as audience and band members bounced up and down as though the song would never end.
