Over the years Oaklandish has produced over 100 free public events: from film screenings to art exhibits, underground parties and more. We're the inventors of the "Liberation Drive-In" (pirate movie theater) as well as "Urban Capture The Flag", which have both become global phenomena. Our annual Summer parties include the Lake Merritt Radio Regatta and Salsa by the Lake, and each year at the Art & Soul Festival we host the "Local Love Screening Tent", featuring short film & video from community youth programs. The Mobile Ops rig is at the Grand Lake farmer's market on Saturdays from 9am-2pm and at the Temescal farmer's market on Sundays from 9am-1pm. Please click here for a list of retailers.
2008 Oaklandish Innovators Award
Oakland has historically been a hotbed of renegade activity, where boundaries are redefined and trends are created rather than followed. To help encourage the continuation of this "trailblazers' legacy," Oaklandish has created the Oaklandish Innovators Award, a fund that offers annual grants to those organizations and individuals who are doing pioneering work in our community. Every year five honorees are selected, each receiving a $5,000 grant. The total award fund equals $25,000 annually, which we hope will grow with your support!

Oaklandish presents: 3rd Annual Lake Merritt Radio Regatta

Also, our 2008 Innovators Award winner, Youth Spirit Artworks (YSA), will be celebrating the end of their semester by hosting an exhibit and silent auction of their furniture art throughout the event. YSA seeks to empower and transform the lives of homeless and at-risk youth through art, job training in furniture painting, and community art making.

People's Grocery
"Flavors of the Garden": come to a series of three tasting events for a sampling of delicious appetizers & beverages crafted by local Bay Area chefs made with organic seasonal produce straight from the gardens and farm. August 23 from 11am-1pm @ 1167 55th Street, just west of San Pablo. Plus, sign up for their new Grub Box - a market basket from the People's Grocery farm (supplemented by outside producers) that is geared at providing quality fresh fruits and vegetables to West Oakland families at low prices on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Urban Capture The Flag
Capture the Flag is postponed until further notice. We've received notification that the City now requires a permit for Capture the Flag and that they will not grant one for playing in Frank Ogawa plaza. So until this gets worked out somehow, R.I.P Capture the Flag. This would have been the 6th summer.
